Many people have moved between diverse environments during their childhood. When you leave a place and enter a fresh new area, then even everyday commonplace things come in subtly different forms.
“Jigsaw world” represents the pictures in my mind from my past and present experience. I came to London two years ago, with 14-years of memories of my hometown in north-east China. I tried to compare every scene I saw in London with the memories in my mind, to look for familiar features and come to terms with the uniqueness of two different cultures.
I feel this fusion of two environments is what my world and my mind is like, just like a massive jigsaw – many different pieces of life scenery stuck together in a kind of patchwork jigsaw.

Hi everyone,
I went to China last week and had a lot of nice photo shoots there. I really enjoyed spending time with my relatives and old friends. Everything seems to be the same but China’s developing and changing so rapidly, the city now has already looked different from half a year ago. As soon as I landed in the airport I can see the difference in appearance between Britain and China is so obvious - styles of building, people, fashion trends, langauge on signs, roads and shops.
Miss there already :P

2nd traning session! :)
Hi everyone :)
I had my second training session yesterday at Summer Uni, it was very enjoyable and useful. I have learned about the importance of adjusting white balance and the four key things of an amazing photo, which are: clarity, sharpness, interesting angle and nice colours. Thanks to Dodge, Satu and Emma.
Bixi.

About my project
Hello everyone and welcome to my online blog!! This will be used to record developments made on my photographic project (My Jigsaw World) through the posting of test photos, influences from other photographers’ work, new ideas and inspirations. Hope you will enjoy reading them!
“My Jigsaw World” represents the pictures in my mind from my past and present experience. I came to London two years ago, with 14-years of memories of my hometown in north-east China. Every object I have seen here is different to those I lived with before. As I gradually settled down, the remembrance of my hometown could not be wiped away – it stays in my mind along with my new experience and lifestyle. This fusion of different experiences is what my world and my mind is like, just like a massive jigsaw – different pieces of life scenery stuck together.
In the final exhibition, a range of about 15 photos will be shown in a jigsaw format, each jigsaw piece is an independent photo, with bits cut out so they can connect to each other showing they are not yet separated (or cannot be separated). Hopefully each photo will have its own representation of an issue in daily life.
Finally, I would like to thank Tower Hamlets Summer University, www! and Shake ur arts for offering me this great opportunity to get closer to the world of photography and for all the help I have received and am still receiving.
Thank you for reading!
Bixi :).
